Stuart Wechsler interview

stuart wechsler.MP3

Oral history interview conducted for research on Harambee City.

Listen to Stewart Weschler and Ruth Turner’s (Turner interview forthcoming) decision to join the civil rights movement. Have students write a letter to their parents justifying their decision to leave school to join the black freedom movement.

Participants should:

1. Outline the movement cause and tactic

2. Explain its transition to black power

3. Discuss their decision to follow a particular strategy (i.e. community organization or direct action)

4. Address parental fears about their educational and career future.
